Grok Imagine Pricing: Plans, the API and an 8-Second Ad Clip
Grok Imagine pricing by route. An 8-second 720p clip is $1.12 on xAI's 1.5 or 24 cents on Lite, before input pictures, and xAI publishes no clip price for the app.

An 8-second clip on xAI's API costs 16 cents to $2
That's the full range of Grok Imagine pricing on the API for video output, from the Lite model at 480p to grok-imagine-video-1.5 at 1080p. At 720p, the size we stick to through most of this post, 8 seconds costs $1.12 on 1.5 and 24 cents on Lite. At 15 seconds, it's $2.10 and 45 cents. We worked those out as seconds times xAI's listed rate. They don't include input pictures, so a clip made from pictures costs a little more.
The app is harder to price. xAI sells plans with one shared weekly usage pool, and it doesn't publish a price for a clip. Its pages put the plans in one place and the per-second rates in another, and none of the top five results we saw for this search prices one clip on any route.
We read xAI's docs on November 4, 2026. The pricing and terms pages on x.ai wouldn't open for us, so those figures come from dated Internet Archive copies. The Novoads side comes from our own plans and a clip of ours. We didn't test Grok Imagine for this post.
What xAI's API charges by the second
xAI pitches this route directly at people making ads. Its Imagine API page, in an archive copy from October 19, 2026, says "Use the image endpoint to create static ad creatives and the video endpoint to produce video ads, all from the same product photo."
The three video models at each resolution
Prices as of November 4, 2026, from xAI's API pricing page, which says all prices are in USD. The per-second column is the page's Output column, and we multiplied out the two clip columns ourselves.
| Model | Resolution | Per second | 8 seconds | 15 seconds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| grok-imagine-video-1.5 | 480p | $0.08 | $0.64 | $1.20 |
| grok-imagine-video-1.5 | 720p | $0.14 | $1.12 | $2.10 |
| grok-imagine-video-1.5 | 1080p | $0.25 | $2.00 | $3.75 |
| grok-imagine-video-1.5-lite | 480p | $0.02 | $0.16 | $0.30 |
| grok-imagine-video-1.5-lite | 720p | $0.03 | $0.24 | $0.45 |
| grok-imagine-video-1.5-lite | 1080p, upscaled | $0.14 | $1.12 | $2.10 |
| grok-imagine-video | 480p | $0.05 | $0.40 | $0.75 |
| grok-imagine-video | 720p | $0.07 | $0.56 | $1.05 |
xAI's overview recommends Lite "for simple videos" and 1.5 "when you need references, voices, pinned frames, or native 1080p." Only 1.5 takes voice references, so you'd pay the 1.5 rate for an ad built on one.
The $0.14 rate appears twice in that table, for 1.5 at 720p and for Lite at 1080p. You'll also see $0.08 a second quoted for grok-imagine-video-1.5 with no resolution attached. That's its 480p row, and it isn't what 720p costs.
The page's edit stamp says October 10, 2026, but that isn't when the price arrived. An archive copy from June 23, 2026, already shows $0.14 for 720p under the current model name.
What the math leaves out
Seconds times rate gives you the price of one finished take with nothing fed in. A real ad can cost more, and xAI's own docs show why.
- Input pictures are billed on top. xAI's table lists $0.01 an image on 1.5 and Lite. On grok-imagine-video, it's $0.002 an image, plus $0.01 a second for source video.
- A flagged take still costs money. When xAI's system decides a request breaks its usage guidelines, the pricing page says "we will still charge for the generation of the request."
- You can't cancel a clip once it's started. xAI's talking-character recipe says Stop only stops the waiting, and "the video still finishes and is billed, because the API can't cancel one."
- Each retake is billed again. The model page says "You are charged for each second of video generated when using the API."
You also pay ahead. xAI's billing page says "Your API requests will be automatically rejected once your prepaid credits are depleted", and its FAQ says "xAI API credits are non-refundable." The pricing page adds that model access can vary by location and account.
Take the 8-second 720p clip on 1.5. One product photo as a start frame only moves it from $1.12 to $1.13. We think retakes and flagged takes are what would move a real budget, though we didn't run this and can't tell you how often either happens. If your pictures come from xAI's image model, its prices are a separate cost.
Which resolutions you get on each route
A 1080p price doesn't mean the same thing across this lineup. These limits come from xAI's video docs.
| Model | Text or image to video | Reference images | Edits and extensions |
|---|---|---|---|
| grok-imagine-video-1.5 | Up to 1080p, native | Up to 14 images, 15 s, 720p | Not supported |
| grok-imagine-video-1.5-lite | Up to 1080p, upscaled from 720p | Not supported | Not supported |
| grok-imagine-video | Up to 720p | Up to 7 images, 10 s, 720p | Yes, capped at 720p |
Check the defaults too. A request that doesn't set them gets 8 seconds at 480p. The longest you can set is 15 seconds, which is why this post prices those two lengths. The default aspect ratio is 16:9, so you have to ask for 9:16 if you want a vertical ad. And xAI's docs say "Generated videos include an audio track by default".
The gap we'd watch is feed size. Today's video docs don't offer 4:5 as a setting, though they say image-to-video "always matches the input image's aspect ratio", and we haven't tried a 4:5 picture. The October 19 copy of the Imagine API page answers "Does this work with Meta, Google, TikTok, and other ad platforms?" with a yes, then says "There is no 4:5 or 1.91:1 option; crop those from 3:4 and 16:9."
What xAI's own runs cost
xAI's cookbook gives two real costs, both from its own runs. Its product-ad recipe starts from one product photo and ends with an eight-second vertical ad. xAI says "A run makes three images and one video, takes a couple of minutes, and cost about $1.35 when we ran it." That total covers the whole run, pictures included, and the line doesn't name the model or the resolution.
Its talking-character recipe says "the sample made a 10-second video for $1.42, and a single line made a 5-second video for $0.71, so about 14 cents a second." Those totals fit 1.5's 720p rate plus a cent or two for input pictures. That's our reading, because the recipe doesn't name the model, it gives 720p only as a ceiling, and we haven't seen a bill ourselves.
What the app's plans cost, and which plan is which
The X Subscription
xAI introduced The X Subscription on October 12, 2026, and its docs say "New self-serve customers choose from The X Subscription plans." Prices as of November 4, 2026, in US dollars from xAI's docs. The video column comes from the comparison table on xAI's pricing page, in an archive copy made that morning, and the copy doesn't show which region it was made from.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | Included usage | Video generation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Limited | Not included |
| Plus | $8/mo | $80/yr ($7/mo) | Base | Not included |
| Premium | $30/mo | $300/yr ($25/mo) | 4x | Included |
| Super | $100/mo | $1000/yr ($84/mo) | 15x | Included |
| Ultra | $200/mo | $2000/yr ($167/mo) | 50x | Included |
The monthly figures in parentheses are xAI's own rounding, and we've kept them as shown. $80 a year appears as $7 a month. $1000 a year appears as $84. So budget from the yearly price.
xAI's docs say "List prices do not include sales tax", and the pricing page's footnote adds VAT to that. Team plans start at $30 a seat on Premium.
If you're making video, look at the last column. The Plus card mentions Imagine, but the comparison table marks video generation as not included on Plus, and image generation as included. Premium is the first individual plan marked as including video, and its card says "Make stunning AI images & videos."
The older plans still on sale
SuperGrok and X Premium are still around. xAI's docs say "Existing Cursor, SuperGrok, and X Premium plans continue. Switching is optional."
On November 4, 2026, the US App Store still listed SuperGrok as in-app purchases. The store gives no billing period for any of them, so we can't tell you which are monthly.
| In-app purchase | Price shown |
|---|---|
| SuperGrok Lite | $10.00 |
| SuperGrok | $30.00 |
| SuperGrok Plus | $100.00 |
| SuperGrok Heavy | $300.00 |
| SuperGrok, a second listing | $300.00 |
X's help center, in an archive copy from October 21, 2026, lists X Premium+ on the web in the United States at 40.00 USD a month or 395.00 USD a year, and says it includes SuperGrok access. xAI's docs say "If you have X Premium+ today, choose Premium or higher to keep your X Premium+ benefits."
Watch the word Premium, because two plans use it. The X Subscription's Premium is $30 a month in xAI's docs. X's own Premium tier is 8.00 USD a month in that help center copy, which lists SuperGrok, with Imagine for videos and images, under Premium+ only.
The same plans in euros, for a visitor from Spain
We opened grok.com/plans from Spain on November 4, 2026, signed out, and it showed euros. We didn't see a US visitor's cards on that page, so these are one visitor's prices, and the page says they don't include taxes or fees.
| Plan | First month (promotion) | Monthly after that | Yearly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plus | None shown | €8 | €80 |
| Premium | €16 | €31 | €310 |
| Super | €53 | €105 | €1,050 |
| Ultra | €105 | €210 | €2,100 |
The first-month column is a promotion. The cards we saw that day said "50% off for 1 month" on Premium, Super and Ultra, and an offer like that can end any day, so read the next column as the monthly price. xAI's launch post also says "Switching comes with limited-time offers, which you can see in your account billing settings."
What the cards say about video
The Super card's wording changes depending on where you read it. On xAI's pricing page, in the dollar copy from November 4, it says "Create 1080p, 15s videos". On the grok.com card we saw in euros, it says "Create 1080p videos". Both put 1080p on Super, one step above Premium, and neither the Plus card nor the Premium card mentions it.
Why we won't give you an app price per clip
We went through xAI's plan pages, its Grok FAQ and its usage docs, and none of them gives a price for one clip, a clip count or a share of the pool per clip. They do give you some pieces.
- The FAQ says you get "one shared weekly usage pool", and the pricing page copy says that pool is shared across Grok and Cursor.
- The FAQ also says "A chat message uses little compute; generating a high-quality video or running a long coding task uses far more."
- It says "720p videos automatically fall back to 480p once you hit the 720p cap for your tier", and we didn't find the size of that cap for any tier.
- It says "When your weekly usage limit is met, paid features will pause until your weekly limit resets."
- The plan table's multiples compare plans with each other, so 4x on Premium doesn't tell you what a clip uses.
We could divide $30 by a guess, but the result would look like a price xAI never published, so we've left it out. If you need to know what a clip costs before you make it, the API is the route that tells you.
Two places where xAI's own pages disagree
Does the app sell Extra Usage Credits?
xAI's Grok FAQ, edited November 3, 2026, says "Extra Usage Credits can currently only be purchased on the web. In-app purchases on mobile will be available in the future." The US App Store listing we read a day later shows them as in-app purchases anyway, from "Extra Usage Credits 5 USD" at $5.00 up to a $100.00 pack. We can't tell you which page is out of date, so check your own store before you plan around either.
On price, the FAQ says these credits are "priced at standard rates, which means the cost per action is higher than the effective rate you get from the included weekly usage in your plan." It still doesn't give a rate for a clip.
Does API use draw on your plan?
xAI's pricing page, in the November 4 copy, says "API usage is billed separately at standard model rates and doesn't draw from your plan's usage pool." The Grok FAQ, edited a day earlier, says your usage screen shows "A percentage breakdown by product (API, Build, Chat, Imagine, Voice)." Those two lines are hard to square.
We've kept API spend separate from any plan in our numbers, because the price list and the billing page both treat it that way. That's our reading, and if you have both a plan and API credits, your own usage screen will settle it faster than either page.
Watermarks, terms and the names on each page
What the watermark line covers
xAI's Grok FAQ says "Generated images and videos include a Grok watermark to indicate that the content was created with AI. There is no setting to remove the watermark." The page says it answers questions about "our consumer-facing Grok website and apps", so we read that line as covering clips made there. It adds "Removing, altering, or obscuring the watermark or other provenance signals is prohibited under our Acceptable Use Policy."
On the API side, xAI's watermarking page says "Watermarking applies to text output from text generation requests, for each model that has watermarking turned on for your team." We found no xAI page that says whether API clips carry a visible mark, so we won't tell you either way.
What the terms say
The consumer terms, last updated October 27, 2026, deserve a full read if a clip might end up in an ad. We read an archive copy from November 2, 2026, and this is the sentence we'd start with.
"When using Output or SpaceXSI's name, logos, trademarks, or other brand elements, you are required to obtain our permission and attribute your generation of the Output to the Service, as detailed in our Brand Guidelines"
Three more lines are worth reading next to it.
- The same terms say "you may be required to apply or SpaceXSI may apply a disclosure stating that the content was generated or altered by artificial intelligence."
- The Brand Guidelines, in a copy from November 4, 2026, ask people who used Grok for text or images to attribute it "in a legible and noticeable manner wherever the Grok-generated material is published or distributed", and "Created with Grok" is one of the phrases they offer.
- Enterprise API users get different terms, with the same update date. They say "SpaceXSI hereby assigns to Customer all of its right, title, and interest in such Output (but excluding, for clarity, the SpaceXSI Technology (defined below))", and that a customer won't "misrepresent that any Output was human-generated."
We're not calling any of that a ban or a license for ads. None of the four legal pages we read uses the word advertising, so if a Grok clip is going into a paid ad, read the terms that apply to your account yourself.
Who's behind each page
The company's name changes from page to page, and we use xAI here because the API and the web addresses still do.
| Where you see it | Name shown |
|---|---|
| xAI's docs and terms | SpaceXSI |
| The launch post's footer | SpaceX Super Intelligence LLC |
| The API and the web addresses | xAI |
| US App Store | X Corp. as developer and seller |
| Google Play | SpaceX Super Intelligence |
The pricing page says "Subscriptions are only sold directly through X Subscription Corp. We do not authorize any resellers or third-party sellers." That's worth knowing for this search, because the third result we saw, ximagineai.com, is a separate site with its own packs. Its footer says "It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by xAI, SpaceXAI or X Corp.", so its prices aren't Grok's.
Pages that changed recently
Three of these pages changed in the week before we read them, so check the date before you lean on a line.
- xAI edited its Grok FAQ on November 3, 2026.
- xAI edited its release notes on November 2, 2026. The newest entry retires an image model, and we saw no video price change there.
- xAI dated its API watermarking page October 31, 2026, and the text watermark it describes starts on November 7, 2026.
The same clip lengths on models we sell
We don't sell Grok Imagine. We do sell Wan 3.0 and Seedance 2.5 in Novoads, so this table puts them next to xAI's three models at the same lengths, at 720p. Our dollar figures are credits times $0.075 on Starter and $0.049 on Plus, which is each plan's monthly price divided by its credits. The xAI rows are output only. Prices as of November 4, 2026.
| At 720p | 8 seconds | 15 seconds |
|---|---|---|
| grok-imagine-video-1.5 on xAI's API | $1.12 | $2.10 |
| grok-imagine-video on xAI's API | 56 cents | $1.05 |
| grok-imagine-video-1.5-lite on xAI's API | 24 cents | 45 cents |
| Wan 3.0 in Novoads on Starter, 14 and 27 credits | $1.05 | about $2.03 |
| Wan 3.0 in Novoads on Plus, 14 and 27 credits | about 69 cents | about $1.32 |
| Seedance 2.5 in Novoads on Starter, 56 and 105 credits | $4.20 | about $7.88 |
| Seedance 2.5 in Novoads on Plus, 56 and 105 credits | about $2.74 | about $5.15 |
How we read that table
- Wan 3.0 in Novoads costs less than Grok's 1.5 at both lengths. At 8 seconds, that's $1.05 on Starter against $1.12, and the gap is wider on Plus.
- Wan 3.0 costs more than Lite on both plans, and more than grok-imagine-video. Lite is the cheapest line in the table by a wide margin, so if the lowest price per clip is all you're after, it beats everything here.
- Seedance 2.5 in Novoads costs more than all three xAI models on both plans. It does go up to 30-second takes, past the 15 seconds xAI allows in one generation.
- At 1080p, Wan 3.0 on Starter costs more than Grok's 1.5. An 8-second clip is 28 credits. That's $2.10 on Starter, against $2.00 on 1.5. On Plus, those 28 credits come to about $1.37, which is under it. That comparison only holds for 1.5's text-to-video and image-to-video, its native 1080p routes.
All of this compares prices. It doesn't say the clips are the same or that one looks better, because we didn't run Grok Imagine. Wan 3.0 has been open to every Novoads customer since October 30, 2026, and it isn't the default model. Our post on what it makes has the details.
On Starter, a month's credits cover 14 of those 8-second Wan 3.0 clips or 3 on Seedance 2.5. On Plus, it's 71 or 17.
A clip of ours at that length
We made this clip on October 31, 2026, through our MCP connector, from a text prompt alone. It's a vertical 8-second selfie at 720p with sound. A woman in a bright kitchen lifts an unlabeled amber dropper bottle next to her face and says one line about three weeks on a serum.
It held one continuous shot, and her line came back word for word. The render took 3 minutes 10 seconds and 14 credits. That's one take, so don't treat it as a rate. And it's a Wan 3.0 clip, so it tells you nothing about what Grok Imagine would make.

Where Novoads fits if you're making ads
Which route we'd pick
This is our view, and we've got an obvious interest in the answer.
- We'd use xAI's API if you've got a developer and the job is the lowest price per clip. Lite is the cheapest thing in this post.
- We'd use the app, on Premium or higher, if you want to try Grok Imagine by hand and don't need to know what each clip costs.
- We'd use Novoads if the job is a UGC-style ad and you'd rather write a script and pick an AI actor than build that flow yourself. You'll pay more than Lite, and each clip has a set credit price by model, length and resolution.
For more on the models we sell, our Kling and Seedance comparison is a good next read, and our Seedance 2.0 pricing post does the same kind of math.
What Novoads costs
Novoads starts at $15/month (Starter, 200 credits per month). Plus is $49/month (1,000 credits), and Ultra starts at $129/month (3,000 credits) for more volume. You pay from the first month. Our pricing page has every plan and what its credits make. It gives counts of Seedance 2.0 videos and Nano Banana Pro images but doesn't list Wan 3.0, so use the credit figures above for that model.

The Novoads pricing page on 2026-11-04, with Monthly selected.
On commercial use, our pricing FAQ says "All videos generated with Novoads are fully licensed for commercial use."
Budget your ad clips before you make them
Starter is $15 a month for 200 credits. Compare what each plan's credits make across video, images and voice.
Compare Novoads plansIf you stay with Grok Imagine, our post on wording its prompts should help you waste fewer takes, since every retake on the API is billed at the full rate.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does one Grok Imagine clip cost?
On xAI's API, as of November 4, 2026, an 8-second clip at 720p works out to $1.12 on grok-imagine-video-1.5 and 24 cents on Lite. At 15 seconds, it's $2.10 or 45 cents. That's our math from xAI's per-second rates, and it covers output only, so input pictures cost extra. For the app, xAI doesn't publish a price for a clip, a clip count or how much of the weekly pool a clip uses.
What do you get with Grok Premium?
Two plans use that name. The X Subscription's Premium is $30 a month in xAI's docs, before sales tax, with 4x the usage of Plus. Its card on xAI's pricing page, in an Internet Archive copy from November 4, 2026, lists Grok Bot, the latest Grok models, faster chat and AI images and videos, and the page's table marks video generation as included. X's own Premium tier is a separate plan. An October 21, 2026, copy of X's help center lists it at 8.00 USD a month on the web in the United States.
How much does a Grok subscription cost?
As of November 4, 2026, xAI's docs list Plus at $8 a month and Premium at $30. Super is $100 and Ultra is $200, all before sales tax. From Spain that day, grok.com/plans showed us euros, with a first-month promotion on the top three plans. Older SuperGrok and X Premium plans continue for people who already have them, and the US App Store still listed SuperGrok as an in-app purchase.
Is Grok Imagine paid or free?
It depends on what you're making. xAI's docs list a Free plan at $0, but its pricing page, in an Internet Archive copy from November 4, 2026, marks image generation as limited on that plan and video generation as not included. Video is marked as included starting with Premium, at $30 a month before sales tax. The API is separate, and xAI bills it by the second.
Key Takeaways
- On xAI's API, an 8-second clip at 720p works out to $1.12 on grok-imagine-video-1.5 and 24 cents on Lite. At 15 seconds, it's $2.10 and 45 cents. That's our math from the rates xAI listed on November 4, 2026, and it covers video output only.
- A usable clip can cost more than seconds times rate. Input pictures are $0.01 each on those two models, xAI still charges for a flagged request, and you can't cancel a video once it's started.
- xAI's docs list Plus at $8 a month and Ultra at $200, before sales tax. An archive copy of its pricing page marks video generation as included starting with Premium, at $30 a month.
- xAI doesn't publish an app price for a clip or say how much of the weekly pool a clip uses, so we didn't work out a price.
- In Novoads, Wan 3.0 is 14 credits for 8 seconds at 720p. That's $1.05 on Starter and about 69 cents on Plus, under Grok's 1.5 and over its Lite. We compared prices only, because we didn't run Grok Imagine.
