Is Kling AI Free? $0 to Start, but Commercial Use Costs Extra

Kling's Basic plan costs $0, but it comes with no monthly credit grant, its exports generally carry Kling's watermark, and Kling says what you make on it isn't for commercial use.

Two phones on a marble table showing the same video of a woman holding an amber serum bottle in a kitchen, the left screen faded behind a frosted film and the right one sharp, beside a blank kraft price tag

Kling costs $0 until your video has to sell something

Kling's own credit guide lists its Basic plan at "$0; free forever," and the same row says Basic's generated content "is not for commercial use." So yes, you can use Kling AI without paying. But Basic comes with no monthly credit grant, Kling lists its daily free credits as a subscriber benefit, and Basic exports generally carry Kling's watermark. If you're making ads, read the commercial-use line first, because running an ad is commercial use.

We didn't use Kling's app for this post. Everything we say about Kling comes from Kling's own pages, which we read signed out, from Spain, on October 26, 2026. The Novoads numbers come from our own price list and a clip we rendered in September.

What a $0 Kling account gets you

Kling's pages describe three ways to get credits without paying.

  • You can claim credits when you log in each month.
  • New users get credits when they sign up.
  • Kling runs promotions that hand out credits now and then.

The plan itself doesn't grant any, and the pages we read don't give a number for any of the three.

Basic has no monthly credit grant

Kling's July credit guide lists Basic with "No monthly Credits." The membership page said the same when we read it on October 26. Its plan comparison has a dash in Basic's column for monthly credits, where Standard shows 660.

Monthly login credits, with no published amount

Kling's membership FAQ lists "Monthly Free Credits for Non-Subscribers," which you claim when you log in each month and which stay valid for 31 days. Kling's blog post of October 16 says much the same thing. New users get free credits when they register, and existing users get more by logging in each month.

Neither page says how many. One of Kling's plan pages says "the number and validity of free credits may change," and no Kling page we read puts a number on the allowance. Several pages that rank for this question quote 66 credits, some per day and some per month. We couldn't trace that figure to Kling as a free allowance, so we don't use it here. If you sign up, check your balance after the monthly claim to see what your own account got.

Daily credits are a subscriber benefit

Kling does hand out daily credits, but they're for subscribers. The plan comparison lists "Daily Free Credits for Subscribers" with a dash for Basic. The FAQ says you get those daily bonus credits with your first login of the day, and that they expire at midnight, local time. Kling's credits policy says the same thing. During an event, subscribers can claim daily credits when they log in, in amounts Kling announces.

Sign-up credits and promotions

The FAQ also says Kling "occasionally offers promotional campaigns that grant free Credits." When we looked on October 26, the membership page invited signed-out visitors to "Claim limited-time free credits" by signing in, with no amount and no end date shown. We'd treat credits like these as a bonus when they show up, and we wouldn't plan an ad budget around them. Our roundup of free AI video generators shows how other tools handle their free plans.

What you can make on Kling's Basic plan

Basic's tighter limits are on the video itself. Kling's October 16 post warns that free access "may still come with limits on available models, video length, resolution, or export options." Kling spells out some of those limits. Others you'd only see from inside an account.

One video per generation, and no 1080p

Three of Kling's pages help pin down what a Basic account can output.

  • The plan comparison gives Basic one video per generation, against four on every paid plan. It also shows a dash for Basic on 1080p and 4K video.
  • Kling's credits policy lists "1080p videos" among its premium-only functions, next to watermark removal.
  • Kling's VIDEO 3.0 guide says both of the model's modes support 1080p and 720p.

Put those together and we'd expect a free account with access to Kling 3.0 to render it at 720p. That's our inference from those pages, because Kling doesn't say "720p on Basic" in so many words. The sign-in offer we saw on the membership page on October 26 also promised subscriber access to 1080p and 4K video. So a promotion can lift that cap for a while, though the offer didn't say for how long.

Elements for a recurring product

Kling also caps elements, the saved references it uses to keep a character or a product consistent from clip to clip. On Basic you can create 30 of them, and on Standard 50. The VIDEO 3.0 guide says you can make one by uploading 2 to 4 reference images. Kling's credit guide calls these workflows important "when a project needs recurring characters, products, or voices." For a test series around one product, we think 30 is plenty.

What a Kling 3.0 clip costs in credits

Kling charges for VIDEO 3.0 by the second. Its February 2026 user guide sets one rate for each mix of sound and resolution.

  • With native audio, it's 12 credits a second at 1080p and 9 at 720p.
  • Without native audio, it's 8 credits a second at 1080p and 6 at 720p.

We multiplied those rates out for 5- and 10-second clips.

  • At 720p with sound, a 5-second clip costs 45 credits and a 10-second clip costs 90.
  • At 720p without sound, it's 30 credits for 5 seconds (Kling's own second example) and 60 for 10.
  • At 1080p with sound, which needs a paid plan, it's 60 credits for 5 seconds (Kling's first example) and 120 for 10.

The guide says a clip can run anywhere from 3 to 15 seconds. We didn't find a shorter limit for free accounts on the Kling pages we read, and without an account we couldn't check the generator itself. If you're weighing Kling 3.0's sound and length against another engine, we've compared Kling 3.0 with Seedance in a separate post.

Kling 4.0 on a free account

Kling's October 16 post also says "not every Kling 4.0 capability is necessarily included in free access," and it asks you to check which models and credits your account has before you generate. We couldn't see a free account's model list without signing up, so we can't tell you which Kling 4.0 features Basic includes.

Can you run a Basic-plan video as an ad?

Not under Kling's own rules. Every Kling page we read on the subject ties commercial use to a paid plan.

What each Kling page says about commercial use

  • Kling's credit guide, dated July 28, 2026, lists Basic with "generated content is not for commercial use," and each paid plan's row says its content is for commercial use.
  • The plan comparison on the membership page, which we read on October 26, shows a dash for Basic on "Generated content is for commercial use" and a check mark for every paid plan.
  • The membership FAQ, read the same day, grants commercial use to "Paid Subscribers," as long as the content isn't used to build products or services that compete with Kling.
  • Kling's Terms of Paid Service, effective October 10, 2026, say members' use of output for commercial purposes "is not restricted."
  • Kling's Terms of Service, last updated April 21, 2026, say that without Kling's written permission, you may not use the output for any commercial purpose (section 4.6).

The rule isn't new. It's in the terms Kling last updated on April 21, three months before the credit guide put it on the Basic row.

The watermark and the Kling label

One of Kling's own explainer pages, undated when we read it on October 26, says "free-tier exports generally include a watermark" and that "watermark removal is a membership benefit." The Terms of Paid Service reserve brand-watermark removal for members. They also require non-members to label everything they generate with the Kling brand and logo, unless Kling gives written permission not to.

As we read those rules, Basic is off the table for ad work. A Basic clip is fine for seeing how Kling handles your prompt, but the version you run as an ad has to come from a paid plan.

Buying credits doesn't lift the limits

Kling also sells credits outside a plan. But its FAQ says "Owning Credits does not grant Subscription benefits," and it names watermark removal and 4K generation as features that need an active subscription. The paid terms tie commercial use to members as well. So as we read it, a credit pack on a Basic account still leaves you with Basic's rules.

Testing on Basic, then publishing

If you've tried an idea on Basic and like it, you'll want to render the final version again on a paid plan. Kling's paid terms list commercial use among the benefits you get during your membership, and none of the pages we read say whether a clip made on Basic qualifies once you've subscribed. A second render costs credits, so keep your Basic tests short and save the full-length take for the paid account.

What Kling's Standard plan costs

Standard is the cheapest paid plan in Kling's plan comparison, and the first one with commercial use and watermark removal.

Standard's price and credits

Prices as of October 26, 2026, in US dollars, as Kling's membership page showed them to a signed-out visitor.

  • The first month costs $6.99, down from a $10 list price. It's a first-purchase offer, which Kling says is available once.
  • After that, Standard costs $8.80 a month.
  • Billed yearly, it's $79.20 for the year, which Kling says saves $26.40 compared with monthly billing.
  • Either way, you get 660 credits a month, and Kling's FAQ says monthly credits expire 31 days after they're issued.
  • Beyond what Basic offers, it adds commercial use, watermark removal, and 1080p and 4K video. It also allows up to four videos per generation.

The $6.99 covers only the first month, so budget around $8.80 a month. Kling's July credit guide shows the same Standard offer, but its rows for the bigger plans are out of date, and Kling's FAQ says its Ultra plan is no longer available for new subscriptions. That's why every Kling price here comes from the membership page as it stood on October 26.

The next plan up

Pro costs $25.99 for the first month and $32.56 a month after that. It comes with 3,000 credits a month. If you're comparing ways to pay for the same model, we've laid out three ways to buy Kling, including through Higgsfield.

Credits bought outside a plan

Kling's credits policy sets a standard rate for credits bought on their own, which works out to about 1.5 cents a credit. At its renewal price, Standard comes to about 1.3 cents a credit. Kling's FAQ says credits bought this way last two years, but they don't unlock commercial use or watermark removal.

When a subscription ends

Kling's FAQ spells out what happens when a subscription expires.

  • You lose subscriber benefits, including subscriber-only model discounts.
  • Any unused monthly credits expire with the subscription.
  • Credits you bought separately stay usable until their own expiration date.

We'd start Standard in the month you plan to make the ads, since unused monthly credits expire after 31 days anyway.

How Novoads prices the same Kling clip

We offer Kling's 3.0 model in Novoads as Kling v3 Pro, at 1080p with sound on by default. You pay for it with the same credits as Seedance 2.5, Google Veo 3.1 and our talking actors. Every Novoads plan is paid from the first month, and you can download each clip as a file for any ad platform.

One clip we made

We rendered the clip below on September 30, 2026, through the Novoads REST API, using a one-line prompt and no reference image. The prompt asked for a young woman in a sunlit kitchen who holds a small serum bottle to the camera and says "this changed my mornings."

  • It cost 10 credits for 5 seconds.
  • It came out at 1080p in a vertical 9:16 frame, and the woman said her line word for word.
  • From request to finished file, it took 29 minutes 44 seconds.

That's a single run, so we'd treat the wait as one data point.

One 5-second clip on Kling and on Novoads

Prices as of October 26, 2026. In Kling's own first example, a 5-second Kling 3.0 clip at 1080p with sound costs 60 credits. Kling v3 Pro costs 10 Novoads credits for the same length.

Novoads Plus$49 for 1,000 credits1049 cents100
Novoads Plus, billed yearly$39 a month, 1,000 credits1039 cents100

Per clip, Kling's Standard plan beats our Starter at two of its three prices. Its first month and its yearly billing both cost less than Starter's 75 cents, and only the $8.80 renewal costs more. Plus is cheaper per clip than any Standard price, but it costs $49 a month, so it pays off if you'll use most of its 1,000 credits.

Sound changes the price on Kling's side. Novoads charges the same 10 credits with sound on or off. On Kling, the rate at 1080p drops to 8 credits a second without native audio. A silent 5-second clip there costs 40 credits. That's about 53 cents at the renewal price, under our Starter's 75 cents. At 10 seconds, the credits and the cost per clip double on both sides, because both charge by the second.

If Kling 3.0 is the only model your ads need, Kling's Standard plan is the cheaper way in, at $8.80 a month after the first month, compared with $15 for our Starter. What you're paying for with Novoads is the rest of the lineup on one balance. Starter's 200 credits cover 20 of these clips, and you can spend the same credits on a Seedance 2.5 take, a talking actor or a Kling Motion Control clip when an ad needs one. You'll find every plan on our pricing page.

Which plan fits a video you'll run as an ad

  • Use Kling's Basic plan to see how Kling handles a prompt at no cost, with the watermark on and no commercial use.
  • Use Kling's Standard plan if Kling 3.0 is the only model your ads need and about 11 five-second clips a month will do.
  • Use Novoads if you want Kling v3 Pro next to Seedance, Veo and talking actors on one credit balance, from $15 a month on Starter.

If Kling isn't the right engine for a particular ad, our list of Kling alternatives by price per second covers the other options. We've also asked the same free-plan question about Higgsfield and Nano Banana. Whichever way you go, test on Basic if you like, but render the clip you'll publish on a paid plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Kling AI cost?

Kling's Basic plan costs $0. As of October 26, 2026, Kling's membership page lists Standard as its cheapest paid plan. Standard costs $6.99 for the first month and $8.80 a month after that. Billed yearly, it's $79.20. Either way, it includes 660 credits a month. Pro, the next plan up, costs $25.99 for the first month and $32.56 a month after that. It includes 3,000 credits a month. Kling showed all of these prices in US dollars.

How do you use Kling AI for free?

Sign up for the Basic plan, which costs $0. Kling's membership FAQ, which we read on October 26, 2026, says non-subscribers can claim free credits when they log in each month and that those credits stay valid for 31 days. Kling's blog post of October 16, 2026, adds that new users get free credits when they register. Neither page says how many credits you get. Kling also lists Basic output as not for commercial use, so we'd use a free account to test prompts.

Can you use Kling's free videos in ads?

Not under Kling's own rules. Its credit guide, dated July 28, 2026, lists Basic output as not for commercial use. Its Terms of Service, last updated April 21, 2026, bar commercial use of the output without Kling's written permission. The Terms of Paid Service, effective October 10, 2026, let members use output commercially and require non-members to label what they generate with the Kling brand.

Does buying Kling credits remove the watermark?

No. Kling's membership FAQ, which we read on October 26, 2026, says owning credits doesn't grant subscription benefits, and it names watermark removal and 4K generation as features that need an active subscription. Kling's paid terms also tie commercial use to members, so as we read it, a credit pack on a Basic account keeps Basic's limits.

Key Takeaways
